OUR APPROACH
A Vibrant Learning Community in Action

The Trellis School’s academic program is organised into five divisions (Play, Pre-Primary, Primary, Upper Primary and High School), utilising an integrated curriculum that provides a spectrum of learning opportunities. To achieve educational excellence and to foster intellectual engagement, the program incorporates a full range of teaching styles, learning activities and assessments, with special emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration to facilitate student learning and development.

Teaching and learning at The Trellis School consist of a complex plan that weaves together developmentally and age-appropriate challenges with best practices, current research, and individual needs. Academic departments, grade level teams, and administrative divisions work together to ensure that the curriculum is clearly defined and coordinated. Starting with the Preschool and its emphasis on exploration, wonder, and play, students follow a learning path that is filled with autonomy. The more teachers and students work alongside each other, the more authentic the learning becomes as teachers fully understand their students’ needs.

With a wide array of course offerings starting in the upper primary, students gain valuable exposure to assorted topics. Our student’s love of learning will only grow stronger and is best captured in real-world projects and classrooms where activities generate more questions than answers.

At The Trellis School, it is impossible to avoid moments of daily inspiration. Walking around the “The Trellis School” campus, opportunities arise to see enthralled faces, enthusiastic smiles, furrows of concentration, and energetic involvement on the part of teachers and students alike. On-going work to develop awareness of self and others unfolds alongside a challenging curriculum. Intentional work on social emotional well-being begins at an early age, supported by classroom teachers, the School’s student support team, and administrators. This is ever important in a fast paced world that can be focused on a limited definition of success.

LIFE AT THE TRELLIS SCHOOL

We get it. Life isn't all about school. Most students face a number of stresses and challenges on any given day. Rather ignoring them (or pretend like they don't matter), The Trellis School supports students in big and small ways as they navigate life's twists and turns.

Our emphasis on student wellness stems from our belief that education should nurture and empower the whole person. With everything from educational seminars to dedicated divisional counselors to academic resource centers to healthy food in the Dining Hall, we make sure that all students are equipped with the coping skills and practical resources they need to thrive.

Once in Upper Primary School, small groups of students meet with an advisor three times a week to discuss everything from class scheduling to communication skills to stress management. Advisory groups, which remain constant from year to year, are strategically formed to bring diverse perspectives and compatible student-advisor pairs together.

Life at The Trellis School is about building relationships that inspire effort and achieve mastery. In the Upper primary School, key goals are to instill a love of learning and good study habits. In High School, teachers work to prepare each student to meet the requirements of a rigorous curriculum, fostering critical thinking and complex reasoning crucial to flourishing in school and life. The Trellis School teachers teach students, not classes; students, faculty, and families work together one-on-one and in small groups to achieve clearly defined goals, in the process instilling kindness and mutual respect

TRADITIONS:

S E V A – Service Educational volunteer award
[PART OF EXTREME EXPEDITION BEHAVIOUR (EEB)]

The Trellis School is a community that feels like a family. SEVA, a campus program that brings students from different divisions together, ensures that we maintain this family feeling throughout the busy school year. SEVA engages small groups of students as well as faculty and staff in projects that provide service to the School and outside communities along with teaching, celebrate, and perpetuate the School's rich history. Groups, known as Legacy Groups or Sangh, meet 6-8 times per year. Members of each group stay the same from year to year, forming deep relationships and strengthening the “The Trellis School” Community.
